Bali Island is located in the South Pacific Ocean and lies east of java, separated from it by the Bali strait. Bali is 5,633 sq km (2,253 sq miles) in area the population are about 4,5 million people. The first modern tourists were travelers on the “hippie trail” of the late 1960s and 1970s.

The coconout grove of Kuta was gradually replaced by art shop and small hotel.

In the 1980s and 1990s, south Bali was transformed by a building boom.
There were just a few hundred hotel rooms in 1965, and cover 30,000 by 1999.
